What I Didn't Want To Hear

It’s been a while since I’ve written anything mainly because I’ve had drill for the National Guard this weekend. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to get back to all of you with any new developments regarding the theft of my design recently. But, on a much more somber note, some news was given out at drill this weekend that our unit would be deploying about 179 soldiers to Iraq in the summer.

If I haven’t mentioned it till now, I’m also a medic in the Texas Army National Guard. My unit is fairly understrength due to a ton of soldiers already on deployments in Iraq, the Texas border, and Kosovo. They already made up a list of people who are definitely going, and I didn’t make the list this time. It only filled about 60-70 people on the roster though, so the likelihood of me going is fairly high. The worst part about the entire thing? I was almost finished with my time in the National guard, as my ETS (date I get out) is August of next year.

Although I love my country, and have no problem serving when I’m needed (like when we were sent to New Orleans, and Beaumont for the 1-2 punch of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita), I am terribly disappointed if they involuntarily extend me past the date.
