My Daily Site Crawl

Posted on September 28, 2006 in Life-etc, with 0 comments.

I’ve really been grasping for something to write about lately, and nothing has come to me yet so I’m just gonna take the easy way out and go over my daily site crawl. I usually check these in the wee mornings before i leave for work, but sometimes I’ll wait till right before bed. Either way, I usually try to hit each of these at least once a day, in this order. Enjoy :)

Google Analytics

I admit it, I check out my stats every day. Google Analytics is by far one of the best stat/tracker tools for your site. Among other things, it gives you a very comprehensive list of popular content, an awesomely cool geo-map that gives you an idea of where your visitors are coming from, and an analyzation of how effective your site’s marketing is. The only downside: you have to apply and wait for an invite to use it.

StatCounter

Okay, okay, so maybe I am a little obsessed, but StatCounter makes a great partner to Google’s tool, as it’s much lighter and a lot quicker to load. Tons of good features, free (can’t beat that), and upgradable for a fee. Check it out while you’re waiting for your invite to Google.

The Daily Slurp

In the overcrowded room that is the web design community it helps to have a little of an overview of what’s going on, at a glance. The Daily Slurp is just that, a nice little site that delivers a “daily list of beautiful sites”. Good stuff.

Aint It Cool News

Although I’m not necessarily a movie buff, I do love knowing about movies before anyone else. This site has all the best spoilers and interesting (albiet long) movie reviews. I have to admit though, that recently I’ve been foaming at the mouth for anything on the new Transformers movie.

OneGoodMove

Funny, intellectual, and politically angsty, it’s the best of US liberal leaning blogs.

Darkfall Online: Forums

I guess the only reason I continue to follow this game, six years after finding the website and learning about it, is because I’ve spent six years following it. I’m a huge gamer at heart and I’m constantly anxious to see the next round of screenshots.

Textpattern Forum

As a member of the TXP community I feel a sense of duty to check the status of my CMS of choice regularly. I have to admit that I don’t always check the forums daily.

WebDesignForums.net

and

Designer’s Talk

These are grouped together since they are pretty much the same thing. Having said that, though, they are great communities for the aspiring web designer. Both forums feature an entire category where you can submit your site (or a draft) for constructive criticism. Great stuff, and I have to stop myself from not spending a ton of time there.
