Amazon's new services, some blog networks, and a nice portfolio

Here’s some stuff I ran across recently I’m sure everyone will find interesting.

Amazon’s New Stuff

Apparently Amazon has been quietly at work on some very cool stuff.
They’ve recently added a host of new features to their product pages including:

  • Plogs – I guess these are for authors to write about their books? Although I’m not totally sure what it is, some of them provide excellent tips form the books themselves and give a feel for what topics the book covers.
  • What do customers ultimately buy after viewing this item? – An excellent feature that makes total sense to me. A lot of time I won’t buy anythign online, and just knowing what other things people buy isn’t as important as knowing whether or not they ultimately bought this product .
  • Tags – Let’s face it, it just wouldn’t be web 2.0 without some kind of taggin system going on.

Amapedia

And while everyone was oohing and ahhing over the new stuff for the product pages, Amazon soft-launched a new service for making wiki-like pages for products called Amapedia. It only makes sense for Amazon, and this is a brilliant way to bring consumers together on the worlds biggest product site.

From the looks of it it will work the same as Wikipedia, with users logging in and editing pages about products etc… It’s still in it’s infancy though, so theres not a lot up yet. But the future looks bright, and who would want to be able to search for a product (as a wiki) and get all the low-down on it.

Mybloglog

A new community/network site for bloggers with a few very cool widgets available. Free to all!

SpicyPage

Their tagline is “The best of the web at a glance”, but it should be “Like Digg, but for entire websites”. It works just like Digg, but you can submit your blog (not jsut an article or news item) and people can vote on it. Seems a little copy cat-ish, but I could see myself spending a lot of time on it. SpicyPage

Lukasz Grondecki

Excellent portfolio. I especially like the way he was able to make baskets look cool.

The key to a freelancing career

I just ran across the site, which is very funny, and worth a look.
